Dornan is seeking applications for the role of Construction Director. This is a key role on a new Hyperscale Data Centre project in Belgium.

Reporting to the Project Director, the Construction Director will lead all construction activities along with schedule, safety, and quality at site level. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall effective management of the project execution from pre-construction through to final handover.

Roles and responsibilities:

 

Preconstruction Phase:

  • Support the MEP/CSA/Logistics teams to develop the area coordination for execution development and ensure the P6 program is reflective of same.
  • Assist and support Tender Adjudications / bid reviews.
  • Develop strategy for delivery of design and BIM execution plan to align freeze dates in line with IFC release.
  • Support the recruitment of key team member through interview/selection/onboarding
  • Review and track preconstruction deliverables including technical submittals & drawing production.
  • Drive improvement through constant review and analysis.
  • Ensure lessons learned from other projects are implemented.
  • Liaise with client and design team on procurement and engineering issues.
  • Develop site wide logistics plan with the MEP and logistics teams.
  • Maintain regular contact with project teams, ensuring support is given where required.
  • Liaise with vendors, suppliers, sub-contractors, specialist designers, manufacturers with respect to the specification, validation and value Engineering of products and equipment to be supplied to the project.
  • Support teams with the delivery of pre-construction deliverables, ensuring teams are delivering as per scope and programme.
  • Assist project team with “Build it in a day work-shops” – These workshops are designed to ensure the site engineering team are familiar with their scope, understand how their scope is procured/validated / delivered and handed over.
  • In consideration of the above and with the assistance of the Project Director develop the Project Execution Plan (PEP) through use of existing plans from other similar projects on the roster and making them specific for GRQ5A

Construction Phase:

  • In line with the PEP, develop the project specific management plan RACI and assign the responsible parties per area in each case: Facility Services Area (FSA), Electrical Yard (EYD), MYD, DCH.
  • Attend early stage meetings / supporting the construction team during project construction phase kick off.
  • Arrange and chair handover from the agnostic team to the project execution team.
  • Attend project kick off meetings.
  • Support the Project Director with the implementation of changes requiring design input throughout the construction phase.
  • Ensure record information is collated as construction progresses, e.g., drawing redlines.
  • Setup the lessons learned register and ensure it is updated on a quarterly basis and shared to the relevant parties.
  • Ensure the PEP is implemented and updated as needed.

Handover

  • Support the Operations Director and Project Director in the delivery of the project O&M
  • documentation and As-Built drawings.
  • Ensure final design audit (if applicable) is carried out by the ED.
  • Support Project Director in undertaking a lesson learnt review on the project and present these findings to the Operations Director.
  • Ensure lessons learned are rolled out to new projects.
  • Dedication to people management, managing a large team, managing performance, progress and setting KPI’s
  • Provide mentorship to your team, including advising on training and development opportunities

Experience and Qualifications Required:

  • Trade or Degree Qualified in an Electrical, Building Services or Construction Management discipline
  • 15+ years’ experience in construction, ideally with experience delivering data centre projects as part of the GC team
  • At least five years in a senior position with the ability to manage large and diverse teams
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team to work to tight deadlines
